The film is based on real events that took place in the Silverton suburb of South Africa's capital Pretoria on January 25, 1980, when rebels took 25 people hostage in a bank, inspiring the movement that led to the release of South African President Nelson Mandela from prison. This event was one of the most sensational in the history of the fight against apartheid.

The main characters of the film are three young freedom fighters: two men Calvin (Tabo Rametsi) and Aldo (Stefan Erasmus), as well as a woman named Terra (Noxolo Dlamini). The film opens with them running from the police after an anti-apartheid strike to sabotage an oil plant fails. This causes Calvin, Aldo and Terra to hide in a nearby bank in Silverton and take the customers hostage for safety. Initially, their main demand is a temporary shelter, but when the police, under the command of the exhausted Captain Langerman (Arnold Vosloo) and his partner Hans (Justin Stridom), surround the bank, the demands of the invaders grow into something more.

Now the Protestant troika, risking their lives, is demanding the release of Nelson Mandela in exchange for hostages, starting a movement. Mandela's attempts to overthrow the racist system of apartheid led him to a lengthy prison sentence. During the negotiation process, Langerman takes a liking to the hostage-takers and begins to respect their demands, but the inhuman Hans immediately rejects the commander's gentle approach. However, the situation is aggravated by the fact that the daughter of a state minister worked as an assistant manager in the bank, who was also among the hostages.
